About Us

Electronic Health Network (EHN) is a South Carolina, privately held, Limited Liability Company (LLC) established on June 12, 2007, co-founded by Charles Williams and Aadli Abdul-Kareem. EHN is a Health Information Organization and Exchange (HIO-X) who facilitates the exchange of electronic Protected Health Information (PHI) primarily for treatment purposes between Healthcare Providers, Clinics, Community Health Centers, Hospitals, Laboratories, Radiology Centers, Pharmacies, Payers, Public Health Agenices and Consumers. As a Managed Service Organization (MSO), it is our role to protect the privacy of patient data/PHI for multiple (HIPAA) covered entities.

Our Vision

"Optimize Human Life"

It is our vision to preserve and improve the quality of life of all individuals through secured access to health information that is fast, efficient, affordable, secured, and easy to use for providers, consumers and stakeholders.

Our Mission

The results will improve communication between patient and provider, empowering individuals to take control of their personal healthcare decisions.

Our Accomplishments

In 2007, our first product, the HealthStik, is a Personal Health Record (PHR) secured on an USB Biometric Flash Drive that provided instant access to a consumer health record. Although consumers and providers loved the product, the infrastructure was not in place to support the product. So we decided to build it.

Through a very difficult process, EHN designed, developed, tested and validated an extensive Health Information Exchange (HIE). The key to success was the strategic partnerships with Cisco Systems, Inc and Tiani-Spirit, an Austrian-Based company who covered more 200 million lives in more than 10 countries. (Learn More about Tiani-Spirit) Through these key relationships, we successfully demonstrated the The First Global Medical Data Exchange at the Health Information Management System Society (HIMSS) Conference on February 20-24, 2011 using the Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN) CONNECT Gateway for the USA and the European Patient Smart Open Services (epSOS) Gateway. EHN exchanged secured PHI from Charleston, South Carolina to Vienna Austria, which was validated by epSOS and the Office of National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).

Why is this Important?

Every country has its own unique health compliance laws. We were able to move and share data without violation of any country compliance laws. EHN can easily meet the new US mandates for the exchange, sharing and protection of health information. Our strategic partner Tiani-Spirit is the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) leader 5 years running, with nearly 80 actors supported. We are leap years ahead of the competition.

SCHIEx Connection

In March 2011, EHN was the first organization to successfully connect and test with South Carolina Health Information Exchange (SCHIEx). As a result, EHN secured an agreement on August 12, 2011 as an approved Health Information Organization and Exchange (HIO-X) participant. EHN can quickly connect any provider in South Carolina to SCHIEx with any ONC Certified, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Hospital Information System (HIS) through our unique integration technology. We have a host-based, physician portal available for healthcare providers who do not have a Certified EMR but want to exchange health information. Learn how to connect to SCHIEx.

The Future

Electronic Health Network is creating an community-driven environment where healthcare providers are empowered to make independent choices that will fit their unique business strategy and the relationship with their patients. Consumers will be able to access their Personal Health Record (PHR) from multiple sources at one location. Veterans will be able go to their local healthcare provider without having to go the Veteran Hospital for routine care. Finally, communities will be able drive down the cost healthcare with improved quality of care, access in emergencies, protection of information in disasters, reduced medical errors and duplications, while protecting the safety and privacy of patients.
